Friday Cocktail Hour-French 75

Trust me- mom deserves a drink. It’s been a long year.

Happy Mother’s Day to all my mommy friends out there.

We’ve had a tough year. To all the moms who had to work, keep the kids at home and run your households- here’s to you. I hope someone makes this incredible cocktail for you.

The French 75.

The Mother of all champagne cocktails.

Simple syrup. Lemon juice. Gin.

Mix in a shaker over ice. Strain. Pour in champagne. Yes, Champagne.

Garnish with a long lemon peel.

And make mom a second drink- she needs it.

Cheers!

Wild strawberry blossoms were in my garden when I made this cocktail They make a fun garnish.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Champagne

  • 2 oz gin

  • 1/2 oz simple syrup

  • juice of half lemon

  • lemon peel to garnish

Local gin infused with citrus is a great choice. Support your local distillery and buy something made close to you.

Method- makes 1 cocktail

  • Mix gin, simple syrup and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker over ice. Mix vigorously until your shaker is frosted over.
  • Strain. Pour into a champagne flute and top with cold champagne. Garnish with lemon peel.
  • Notes: I always make my simple syrup with fruit or herb infusions. A lemon simple syrup really elevates this cocktail.
Cocktails made outdoors are the best.
