What is an Azalea Cocktail?

The Azalea is a simple cocktail of vodka or gin, fresh lemon juice, pineapple juice or nectar and grenadine. The drink is a nod to classic pink hue of the azaleas of the legendary Masters golf tournament. I shake it over ice and serve it with a thin slice of lemon. Keep a pitcher of this tart cocktail in your fridge all weekend.

We love watching golf and going to the Bay Hill Invitational, the TPC in Post Vedre and Hunky Hubbie can tell you about every single shot he watched when he went to the Master’s years ago.

Plan a Master’s brunch menu with all the favorites of the fans at Augusta- Pimento Cheese sandwiches, Pecan squares, shrimp and grits, Arnold Palmer’s, and of course, the iconic Azalea Cocktail.

Tips for a perfect cocktail:

  • Serve this cocktail ice cold
  • This cocktail is best served in a small cocktail glass
  • make certain you garnish with a very thin lemon slice or a thin wedge of pineapple
  • add just enough grenadine to make the cocktail the color of an azalea- you do not want this drink too sweet
  • This drink works well with either vodka or gin. Gin has a few more carbs than vodka if you are counting, but the vodka version has only 176 calories. The gin version has 181 calories.
