What is a Classic Dark & Stormy Cocktail?

A Dark & Stormy is a classic cocktail made of dark rum, ginger beer (spicy ginger ale), lime juice, chilled and poured over crushed ice and garnished with ginger and line slices. It is dangerously refreshing and perfect for hot summer days or cold winter nights when you want something a bit fun and different to enjoy. Add a few dashes of bitters for an extra bit of bite.

Styling this cocktail:

  • Glasses are by Match Pewter.
  • The burled wood and sterling ice bucket is an antique.
  • The garnish dish is handmade bought in Mexico.
  • To make ginger shards- buy a large piece of ginger from the produce section of your store. Make certain it is plump and not wrinkled or appears dried out. Slice the ginger lengthwise to create a long, flat shard. Use it as a stirrer for this cocktail.

Experience the bold flavors of a classic dark and stormy cocktail. This cocktail features a unique combination of spicy ginger beer, tangy lime juice, and smooth, flavorful rum.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz dark rum

  • 2 oz fresh lime juice

  • cold ginger beer

  • lime slices

  • shards of ginger

  • ice

  • turbinado sugar or margarita salt for the rim, if desired

Directions

  • On the rim a double old fashioned glass, run a wedge of lime around the glass. If desired, Dip the moistened rim in turbinado sugar or margarita salt.
  • Fill the glass with ice. Add in 4 oz of dark rum, 2 oz of lime juice and top with ginger beer.
    Garnish with lime slices and a large, thin shard of unpeeled fresh ginger.
