The Easiest Hot Spiced Apple Cider

A cozy mug of hot apple cider with autumn spices is the easiest beverage of the season.

Ingredients for for Hot Spiced Apple Cider:

  • fresh apple cider
  • orange
  • cinnamon sticks
  • whole cloves
  • apple
  • nutmeg

How to make this recipe:

Put all the ingredients, except the garnishes, into a large heavy bottomed pot. Warm through for 30 minutes to allow the spices to flavor the cider.

How long can I store this drink?

Remove all the spices and citrus from the cider. Store in an air tight container for up to two weeks.

How much alcohol can I add?

Add half a jigger of VSOP brandy or 1 full jigger of whiskey.

Can I use frozen apple concentrate?

Freshly pressed apple cider is preferred for this cider. Frozen apple concentrate is just concentrated high sugar juice. You will need to add water to get the right consistency. For best results, use pressed cider when seasonally available.

Can this be served cold?

Yes- it is very refreshing served cold.

Warm and tasty, Easy Hot Spiced Apple Cider is just minutes away – with cloves, cinnamon and hint of citrus. A comforting winter beverage.


  • 32 oz fresh pressed apple cider

  • 4 cinnamon sticks, plus additional for garnish

  • 10 whole cloves

  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground nutmeg

  • 3 Orange slices

  • Apple wheels for garnish

  • (Apple Brandy and Whiskey- optional)


  • In a large pot over low heat, warm all the ingredients for 30 minutes until hot. Do not allow to boil. After 30 minutes, remove the cloves and cinnamon sticks with a fine sieve. Serve with cinnamon sticks or apple wheels as a garnish.
  • If adding apple brandy or whisky, add one jigger of whiskey per mug.
