Homemade Coffee Creamer

Here is how you can make the best homemade vanilla coffee creamer using only three ingredients.

Store bought coffee creamer can contain gums, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavorings and colors. Make your own incredible coffee creamer for a fraction of the price using premium vanilla paste, half and half and cinnamon. Sweeten if desired with Vanilla sugar, monk fruit, granulated sugar, raw sugar- whatever you prefer.

Ingredients in Homemade Coffee Creamer

  • milk of choice- half & half, oat milk, almond milk, whole milk etc.
  • vanilla paste- read below why I prefer vanilla paste rather than extract
  • cinnamon- optional, but it adds so much flavor
  • sweetener of choice- optional- I love vanilla maple syrup or monk fruit, but add in sugar, whatever you prefer as long as it can dissolve well.

Special Equipment for the perfect cup of coffee:

  • coffee bean grinder – buy my favorite here. Do not use this grinder for anything but coffee beans
  • airtight container for your coffee beans – do not store coffee in the freezer
  • coffee maker- my top choices are : Cuisinart 14 cup Coffee Maker or Breville Grind Control
  • milk frother- Here is my favorite: Zulay Milk frother
  • Airtight container for the creamer– I use a French glass bottle in my phots above, but a mason jar or any glass container with a tight fitting seal will work. Do not use plastic- it can absorb orders from other foods.
  • French press– for the ultimate cup of coffee. Here are my favorite brands: Bodum $29.95 at Williams Sonoma , Espro P5 $40 at Amazon

Why use Vanilla Paste & what is Vanilla Paste?

Vanilla Paste is a thick mixture of the entire vanilla bean, alcohol ( typically vodka), water, sugar or honey and a thickener like xanthan gum. This mixture is shelf staple requiring only a cool dark space to store- similar to your other spices and extracts.

Vanilla Paste has a deep rich vanilla flavor that you cannot find in vanilla extract alone. Because there is less alcohol than in standard extract, adding it to your coffee creamer makes the creamer taste “less boozy”. Typically with extract you would cook off the alcohol, but in a coffee creamer, that is not the case. Plus the addition of a bit of sugar or honey adds a touch of sweetness to your coffee or hot beverage.

Before serving just give the creamer a little shake to distribute the vanilla paste well.

Vanilla paste can be used in baking or cooking anywhere that vanilla extract is required. Use a 1:1 amount when measuring.

This recipe calls for 1 pint of half and half and 1/4 cup of monk fruit. You can use any milk product or sweetener you prefer. Each serving is about 1.5 oz of creamer.

Ingredients

  • 1 pint half and half , (16 oz)

  • 1 TBSP Vanilla Paste

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup granulated monk fruit- see notes

Directions

  • In a glass jar with a tight lid add in milk of choice, vanilla paste, cinnamon and sugar of choice. Seal tightly, shake vigorously to combine. Store in the fridge up to 2 weeks.
  • To use: Shake jar well before using. Measure out the desired amount of creamer into a microwave safe mug or glass. Heat creamer for 25-30 seconds. Using a frother, froth the creamer until whipped and smooth and tripled in volume.

  • Pour hot coffee into coffee cup and pour hot creamer over top. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Buy a milk product with at least a two week expiration date to get the most out of your creamer.
  • I prefer Monk Fruit in the raw as my sweetener . Test the creamer to determine how sweet (or not) you want your coffee.
  • The addition of cinnamon is optional, but I love the warm spice it adds to my coffee.
  • I froth my creamer in the same mug I use for my coffee. Just make certain it is microwave safe.
