What is TikTok Feta Pasta?

Roast a block of Greek feta, plump tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and herbs at 400 degrees for 45 minutes in an oversize baking dish. Add cooked pasta, stir it all up and enjoy. So simple. It’s worth the hype.

Because so few ingredients are needed, choose the highest quality as possible. Imported feta is a must. Crumbled feta will not work with this recipe. Use plump, vine ripe tomatoes, fresh garlic and really good olive oil. Fresh herbs, if you have them, are even better.

Ingredients in TikTok Feta Pasta:

  • Greek Feta- be certain to use whole block authentic feta and not crumbled. The moisture content and saltiness of Greek feta is an important factor for a successful dish.
  • Pasta- Use something small with nooks and crannies like Orecchietta, farfalle or pipe rigate.
  • Tomatoes- I love fresh tomatoes like the little sugar bombs or Campari.
  • Garlic- fresh, no substitutes
  • Olive oil- a high quality olive oil is best.
  • Red pepper flakes, Herbs de Provence or Italian herbs like basil, rosemary and oregano.
  • Salt and pepper to taste.

Common Questions about this recipe:

Can I use another type of cheese?

Yes- goat cheese would be fantastic or any fresh salty cheese like halloumi, ricotta salata

What other vegetables would work in this recipe?

Chopped zucchini, red or yellow onions, olives or even eggplant would be lovely.

Would gluten-free pasta work in this recipe?

Yes, cook according to the manufactures instructions, but leave it slightly al dente so it does not become gummy.

Can you make this recipe dairy-free?

I use sheep milk’s Feta- which is not dairy free, but not from dairy cows. I have not tried any dairy-free cheeses with this recipe.

How do you store leftovers?

Store in an airtight glass container with a tight lid. Re-heat in a skillet on low heat with a bit of olive oil for five minutes with a tight fitting lid. You can also re-heat leftovers in an over-proof baking dish for 15-20 until the internal temperature is 150 degrees.

Giving credit where credit is due:

The original recipe for baked feta pasta comes from Finland. It was created in 2019 by Finnish food blogger Jenni Häyrinen. On her blog, it is called ‘Uunifetapasta’, which is Finnish for oven-baked feta pasta. It then migrated over to the US when Feel Good Foodie posted the video on her Instagram. The dish has had millions of views and there’s a good reason- it is simple and it is delicious.
