Whitefish is a charming town tucked in the northwest corner of Montana. Surrounded by mountains, rivers, lakes and just outside of Glacier National Park. Whitefish has a great food scene and a hearty breakfast is a great way to start a day of hiking, skiing or just exploring all that Whitefish, Montana has to offer. Buffalo Cafe– An institution in Whitefish since 1979, this is THE spot for the best breakfast in town. My personal favorite is the McCabe’s Special with a side of Kansas City Bacon. Don’t skip the Huckleberry pancakes, Buffalo Pies, and Benedicts. Be sure to check out the daily specials. Open at 7:00 am daily except Sunday ( 8:00 am).
Swift Creek– This is where chefs come to eat breakfast. Chef Christian Moreno amplifies the small town breakfast diner with dishes like Carnitas Benedict and Pumpkin Pancakes (my favorite- pictured above). Don’t skip the fresh bread- baked daily. The Local is a family favorite. Open daily at 8:00am. Closed Tuesdays.
Loula’s– Famous for pie, but beloved as a local breakfast hangout. In the basement of the Masonic temple on 2nd Ave. Join the waiting list on their website to avoid long lines during peak tourist season. My favorites- Lemon Stuffed French Toast or the Yuppie Scramble. Pancakes are done by 11:00, so get there early. One of the few places in Montana where you can find a great bowl of grits.

Cutthroat Bagel Company -My friend and extraordinary pastry chef, Dan Moe opened this bagel shop on Lupfer Ave. back in 2025. Great schmears made with local fruits like huckleberries. Check his social media for daily specials and sell outs- which happen often. 8:00am daily or until they sell out.
Huck’s Place– Smack in downtown on Central- Huck’s is a spot for fresh juice, yogurt parfaits and yummy mimosa bars on the weekend. Open Wednesday- Sunday at 8:00am. Order online via their website.
Amazing Crepes– The Monte Cristo crepe is a staple of life here in Whitefish. Ham, turkey, sweet jam and gruyere cheese. Nutella and strawberry is a family favorite. It is heaven. Gluten -free crepes available. Open daily at 8:00 am until 4:00pm.
Fleur Bake Shop– Barista Levi has been voted best in Whitefish for a reason. Smooth crafted coffee and pastries to rival any French patisserie. YES! It’s that good. Owner Whitney Brien graduated from the prestigious L’Art du Gâteau program at The French Pastry School in Chicago, Il. Fresh croissants, baked treats, quiche, mimosas, and Tuesdays are pizza night from late Spring until Fall. Sundays- do not miss the Montana size Cinnamon Rolls with piles of cream cheese frosting. I cannot live without my weekly cardamom orange bun and a London Fog. Open daily at 7:00am. Downtown on Central. Best sourdough in Montana.
Folklore Coffee– craft coffee and cozy bites. With warm drinks like Earl Grey, Banana bread and rhubarb lattes, you know the coffee is going to be good. Great sandwiches and fresh donuts. And they open early!

Grab ‘n Go breakfast spots in Whitefish

Mountain Berry Bowl ( summers only) – packed with fresh fruit, these açaî bowls are so delicious you may come back for an afternoon pick me up . Don’t skip the bee pollen.
Markus Community Market – Since 1986, fresh wraps, breakfast burritos and pastries all made in house are perfect for a quick grab and go so you can get to recreating. Fresh coffee, full deli and the best wine and beer selection in town. Markus also proudly carries Wild Montana Foods Vanilla Products. If you are looking for local goods- Markus is a must stop. Open daily at 6:00am.
Montana Coffee Traders– When the pumpkin lattes are in season- DO Not miss this. Not so much a grab and go, as a full service place to meet, work and see locals, Coffee Traders has beans by the bag, gifts, the best veggie quiche in town and cookies as big as your head. I always grab a mayhem bar before a big hike. On Central and also on Highway 93 (and Columbia Falls) . Open daily at 7:00am. The Roastery on 93 is closed on weekends.
West Side Market- Just north of town on 2nd Ave/ hwy 93, Westside is where you gas up your boat, grab a great cup of coffee and a donut from The Spot or a breakfast burrito. More than a convenience store, new owners have ramped up inventory with great wines, freshly made goodies and a great coffee bar.
